Answers to FAQs

The instruction booklet refers to "Priming the MIACALCIN Nasal Spray." What does this mean?

Before using a newly opened bottle of MIACALCIN Nasal Spray for the first time, you must first "prime" the bottle. Please note: If your pharmacist has already assembled the unit for you, check to see if it has already been primed by pumping the unit once. If a full spray comes out, the bottle has been primed and is ready for use. If no spray comes out, you must prime the unit.

Remember that you should not prime the pump again before each use. This is not necessary and will waste the medicine.

Will I lose a dose when priming the pump?

Priming the bottle does not result in losing any doses of MIACALCIN Nasal Spray extra medicine is included in each bottle to allow for the initial priming. You should not prime the pump again before each use. This is not necessary and will waste the medication.

Do I need to inhale MIACALCIN Nasal Spray?

Unlike most nasal sprays, MIACALCIN Nasal Spray does not have to be inhaled. Even though some patients may not feel the fine mist of medication, it is nevertheless quickly absorbed by the blood vessels lining your nasal passages. The medication then travels into your bloodstream, where it works to stop bone loss and helps your bones become stronger.

How do I know I'm getting the proper dosage of MIACALCIN Nasal Spray?

Unlike most over-the-counter nasal sprays, MIACALCIN Nasal Spray will not drip down the back of your throat. Because it delivers a fine mist and not a thick, heavy spray, you may not actually feel the nasal spray going into your nose. Don't be concerned; the nasal spray is delivered and is doing its job. The fine mist of medicine is quickly absorbed by the blood vessels lining your nasal passages. The medicine then travels into your blood stream, where it works to stop bone loss and helps your bones become stronger.

Which nostril should I start with when taking MIACALCIN Nasal Spray?

It doesn't matter which nostril you start with, left or right. But try to remember which nostril you used the day before, then use the other nostril the next day. For example, if you start with your right nostril on Monday, switch to your left nostril on Tuesday, then use the right nostril on Wednesday, and so on.
